You said, we did - Learner feedback
Learn Devon collects feedback from our learners to direct improvements in our service. Listening to our learners helps us to develop our service and we always welcome feedback at any time during or after a course starts.
Feedback is a vital for implementing improvements. As a service we receive feedback in many ways, from our Learner Voice form on our website (Learn Voice survey) or when feedback is given to a member of staff: to a tutor, Higher Level Learning Support Assistants, other Learn Devon staff members or to the Council’s Customer Relations team (customerrelations-mailbox@devon.gov.uk).
Below are actions Learn Devon has taken from feedback received last term.
You said: “I found ‘roll on, roll off’ classes very disruptive.”
We did: The course programmes have been selected to support different modes of delivery, including set course timetables and fast-track courses to enable a choice of delivery modes, to support an inclusive service which support individual learning needs.
You said: “Technology was the only downside of this course, where there was a glitch with Zoom which impeded video links at times.”
We did: From September 2024, Google Classroom was implemented to support classroom delivery and learner/tutor working areas. This will allow documents and learning materials to be uploaded and later accessed by the learner at all times.
You said: “It wasn’t clear to me how to access the course initially but that is maybe me being not IT-literate.”
We did: We have improved the learning platform instructions in our welcome email, to support the joining a class. Google Classroom guide – Learn Devon videos and guidance has been developed and we have a new help page on our website to Learners, joining and using the new platform.
You said: “I don’t think I was really prepared for how many hours a week I would need to complete the course and homework.”
We did: We have improved our course information sheets, which includes all the details and requirements including materials you may need when joining a class. We continue to improve this information and all qualification requirements will be outlined on the course information sheet and will be part of the discussion with our new team of Learning Advisors when joining a class.
You said: “I think you need to have additional support for people that have dyscalculia, which is it an understanding of patterns in maths.”
We did: As part of our ongoing efforts to improve learner support, we develop a support plan for every learner identified with a support need within our classes. These plans help us better understand and accommodate your unique needs. We are continually researching best practices for supporting learners with dyslexia and dyscalculia and are committed to creating accessible and enjoyable learning environments. This includes practical resources and accommodations that we can introduce to our classes. Our goal is for every learner to feel seen and understood. By working closely with the Learning Advisor team, we will ensure that we are responsive and proactive in meeting your needs as you progress in your learning.
You said: “Improve communication by seeing each candidate or having a phone consultation before starting course.”
We did: We now have a new team of Learning Advisers who support learners to understand course requirements, support needs and talk you through everything about your qualification. The Learning Advisers will be available to talk throughout your learning journey.
You said: “Videos or instructions on how to navigate the online programme would be helpful.”
We did: We have developed a Google Classroom guide for our learners to access. This available at all times on our website. Learners on our courses have access to Google Classroom videos, which can be accessed by a web browser.
Information about specific aspects of Google Classroom are shown in the following video clips:
