Equipping young learners with skills for work

Get Work Ready is a course supporting young learners to learn essential skills for work.

Taking place in the Exeter Phoenix, a vibrant arts centre in the heart of the city centre of Exeter , a group of young people recently completed an innovative new course aimed at supporting their search for work.

Developed in partnership with Devon County Council’s Virtual School and the Education Training and Employment Advisers, “Get Work Ready”   targeted 16-25 year old care-experienced young people.

Using Lego robotic kits, the learners developed skills such as teamworking, communication and problem solving. They then took their new skills and used them to write a professional CV and to prepare for work based interviews.

At the end of the course one learner said:

“I loved it, especially building and coding with the Lego kits. I also enjoyed creating a CV as this was something that I wanted help with and why I signed up. The tutors made me feel welcome and supported me throughout the week, thank you to those who made the course possible. It has left me more confident and motivated to find work.”
