Supporting job seekers into employment with the NHS
Learn Devon has been supporting job seekers as they look to work for the NHS.
Working in partnership with the Devon NHS Trust and an Early Career and Volunteer Coordinator, Learn Devon has supported a number of people as they develop the skills required to secure employment in the NHS.
After contacting a local Job Centre Plus, over 30 job seekers have undertaken a course with Learn Devon. These courses have helped job seekers identify transferable skills, develop their interview techniques and how to prepare for interview using the ‘STAR’ approach (Situation, Task, Action, Results). Staff at the Job Centre were very positive about Learn Devon’s tutor, Steve, and his approach:
“Steve is very personable in his delivery and incredibly passionate. He pops in bits about wellbeing throughout and really lifted the moral of the group.”
Alongside identifying transferable and interview skills, attendees were shown how to use the NHS careers portal to explore vacancies and the typical jobs pathways with the healthcare sector.
One attendee wrote to let Learn Devon know how he benefited from the course:
“I wanted to express my sincere gratitude for recommending the Learn Devon NHS SWAP event at Barnstaple Job Centre. The event was incredibly informative and has opened up new opportunities for potential employment. Learning about the essential skills to prepare for interviews was particularly helpful and has given me valuable insights.”
So far, all courses have been delivered at Exeter and Barnstaple Job Centres. More courses are being planned for September 2024 to further enable job seekers gain the necessary skills and knowledge to secure employment.
