Pathway to functional skills maths

Overview

Are you returning to education? Or are you moving from one course to another? This course is an excellent place to start. It will help you build your understanding of maths skills required for a functional skills qualification and confidence to progress to your next steps in learning.

You will engage with foundational maths skills including: adding, subtracting, division, multiplication and place value for everyday life and work at your level. You will gain confidence and prepare for progression to a suitable level qualification.

Our classes are small and welcoming. You will be taught by supportive and friendly tutors who provide lots of practical help and guidance. You will work with others and on your own.  If your class is online, you will be taught through Google Classroom.

Entry requirements

This course is usually free*. To enrol, you will need to talk to one of our friendly Learning Advisers. They will advise if the Pathway to Functional Skills is the right course for you. To make an appointment with our team, please contact your local Learn Devon centre.

Assessment criteria

Your tutor will assess you during the class and will give you feedback through your individual learning plan. You may also be given practice assessment questions so you can both see how you are doing.

What do I need?

You will need a pen, a notebook, a calculator and a geometry set with a compass and a protractor. If your course is online, you will also need a laptop with a webcam and a good internet connection. Smartphones are not suitable for joining online classes.

What can I do next?

You will be able to progress to a suitable maths qualification which is nationally recognised. Our offer includes Functional Skills maths and GCSE maths.
