Course Code: SDG034
Level 3 Diploma in Playwork - FCFJ
Overview
This qualification is designed for learners aged 18+ who are currently working or volunteering in a playwork setting with children and young people aged 4 to 16 years. It is ideal for experienced playworkers or those stepping up to a role that requires them to work unsupervised or in a supervisory capacity. Settings may include breakfast or after-school clubs, holiday playschemes, adventure playgrounds, or open access play centres.
The course covers 13 mandatory units, including understanding playwork principles, creating supporting environments for play, safeguarding, health and safety, and understanding the organisational frameworks that protect children’s rights. You will learn how to support children's wellbeing, manage relationships in the setting, and plan for freely chosen, self-directed play.
This is a competency-based qualification, meaning learning is heavily integrated with your daily work practice. You will combine theoretical study (via classroom sessions or online resources) with practical application in your workplace. You are required to complete a placement or be employed in a suitable playwork setting to demonstrate your skills in a real-world environment.
