Grammar for ESOL

Overview

This short course is for anyone who is on an accredited writing course online or face to face (ESOL: Writing for Speakers of Other Languages) and wants to spend some time improving their grammar at the same time. Or maybe you just want to improve your grammar generally.

There will be 10 sessions, each with a different grammatical focus. You will stay on the course for 10 lessons, improving in 10 areas of English grammar use. This will help you to succeed in your writing course and become more confident in grammar use. 

You will be learning in a small and welcoming class. You will be taught by a supportive and friendly ESOL tutor who will provide lots of practical help and guidance.

Entry requirements

To enrol on this course, you will first need to talk to one of our friendly Learning Advisers. They will arrange a meeting and give you some simple tasks to carry out to make sure that this is the right course for you. To make an appointment with our team please contact your local Learn Devon centre. They will ask you for some personal details as this is a free course.

Assessment criteria

You will complete a writing task before the course for the Learning Adviser to understand the level you are working at and what the main areas you need support with are. There is no exam but the teacher will provide regular tasks to check you are improving.

What do I need?

This course is free and you must be working at Level 1 or 2 in Writing. You must also have a good level of competency with computers to access Google Classroom.

You will also need access to the internet and a device such as a tablet or laptop as this is an online course.

You will need a pen, pencil, eraser and a notebook.

What can I do next?

After successfully completing this course and having an assessment with one of our Learning Advisers, you may enrol on one of our ESOL writing qualification courses if you are not already on one.
