Get smart on your smart phone

Overview

Anybody who is new to smartphones and would like some additional support or guidance with using one. This beginners course is suitable for adults who have recently started using a smartphone or who would like to build their confidence with the basics.

You will learn how to: Recognise the main buttons and controls on your smartphone Use the touchscreen and change basic settings Make and receive phone calls Add and find contacts Send and receive text messages Connect safely to Wi-Fi Use the camera to take and view photographs Find and open useful apps

You will be taught by a supportive and friendly tutor who will provide lots of practical help and guidance. Our classes are small and welcoming. You will work with others and on your own, using a variety of resources provided by the tutor.

Entry requirements

This course is free for anyone who is 19 and over and is a resident in Devon. Please contact your local Learn Devon Centre who can give you further information and advice.

Assessment criteria

There will be a simple ILP (Individual Learning Plan) which the tutor will discuss with you individually to make sure the class is meeting your needs. You will also take part in discussions in the group about the session’s activities.

What do I need?

You will need to bring your own charged smartphone and know the passcode used to unlock it. Please also bring your charger. A pen and notebook would be useful to make notes.

You can enrol on another of our digital courses, which can be discussed with your tutor or a learning adviser.
