Overview

Have you thought about working in mental health and learning disability? Do you enjoy helping others and want to make a difference? This free course is for adults who are interested in becoming a Healthcare Support Worker. It is ideal for people who are considering a career change, returning to work, have lived experience or looking to build confidence. The course is designed to prepare learners for opportunities with Devon Partnership NHS Trust or other NHS services.

You will learn about the Devon Partnership Trust and the values at the heart of health services. You will explore the role of a Healthcare Support Worker and gain an understanding of the work carried out in mental health and learning disability services. You will identify the transferable skills you have and how these can be applied to healthcare roles. The course will help you understand job descriptions and learn how to demonstrate your suitability for NHS roles.

Learning will take place through a mixture of tutor-led activities, group discussion, practical exercises and interactive workshops. You will work alongside other learners, share experiences, and benefit from sessions delivered by Learn Devon tutors and representatives from Devon Partnership NHS Trust. Guest speakers will help bring the role to life and provide a valuable insight into working within mental health and learning disability services.
