Everyday maths

Overview

Do you find maths difficult or lack confidence with numbers? If things like shopping, budgeting, telling the time or measuring feel tricky, this course could be a great place to start.

You will build skills in everyday maths, including numbers, adding and subtracting, time, shapes and measurement. We will focus on practical examples so you can use maths more confidently in day-to-day life.

Our small and welcoming classes are taught by our team of friendly, supportive tutors. You will be able to work on your own and, if you want to, as part of a small group. Courses are run at our centres in locations across Devon at various times of the day.

Entry requirements

To start this course, you will first meet with one of our friendly learning advisors who will do a short initial assessment. This will make sure we can put you on the right course. To make an appointment with our team please contact your local Learn Devon centre.

Assessment criteria

When you are ready, you will complete a short assessment. Your tutor will discuss the options with you and agree the most suitable approach—this may include short units completed in class.

What do I need?

It may be useful for you to bring a pen, pencil, and a ruler, as well as some paper to write things down on. You can also bring a calculator.

There are different topics and levels you can progress to after this course. Your tutor will help you decide the best next step, based on your goals and progress.

Funding information

This course is being funded by the Devon and Torbay Combined County Authority (DTCCA). To be able to provide you with this opportunity we need to ensure that you are eligible for funding and have to collect personal data for government monitoring of funding. You must live in Devon and have been normally resident in the UK for the past 3 years and have a legal right to receive this funding. In addition to this you must NOT have previously achieved a grade 4 (C) or above in this subject and take part in an initial assessment to discover your current level. If you are not eligible for any reason, we will have to charge you fees to be able to provide this learning opportunity.
