Overview
This course is for assessors and other individuals who work within an organization to maintain and improve the quality of assessments. It's designed for those who want to become a qualified Internal Quality Assurer (IQA), a key role in ensuring that assessments are fair, consistent, and accurate.
You will learn the principles and practices of internal quality assurance. This includes understanding the roles and responsibilities of an IQA, how to plan and carry out quality assurance activities, the legal and ethical requirements, and how to effectively manage information related to assessment quality.
You will undertake this course as part of a Train for Tomorrow Bootcamp. Learning is typically through a blended approach, but the majority will be online. This involves self-study with online modules and resources, and you will receive support from a personal tutor. The course requires you to be in a position to carry out practical IQA activities and to complete weekly assignments so that the course is completed within 16 weeks.
Entry requirements
You must be 19 years of age or older and possess a relevant assessing qualification (such as the Level 3 Award in Assessing Competence in the Work Environment). You also need to have access to a work environment where you can conduct IQA activities, supervising a minimum of two assessors who are each assessing at least two learners.
Assessment criteria
You will be assessed by creating a portfolio of evidence. This portfolio will include written assignments to demonstrate your knowledge and practical evidence from your work as an IQA, such as sampling plans and reports. Your IQA skills will also be observed in practice, and you'll need to participate in a standardisation meeting.
What do I need?
To enrol, you need to be in an appropriate role where you can carry out Internal Quality Assurance. You must have access to two assessors, who are themselves assessing at least two learners each. This is essential to gather the required evidence for your practical portfolio.
This qualification is part of the Training, Assessment and Quality Assurance (TAQA) suite. The qualification number is 501/0889/X, and it has a credit value of 12. It's a key qualification for those in quality assurance roles within the education and training sector.
The course is primarily online, so you'll need a reliable computer with internet access. All required learning materials, including online modules and resources, are typically provided. You won't need to purchase any additional books.
What can I do next?
After completing this award, you can progress to other quality assurance qualifications, such as the NCFE Level 4 Certificate in Leading the Internal Quality Assurance of Assessment Processes and Practice. You could also pursue qualifications related to external quality assurance, like the Level 4 Award in External Quality Assurance.
Funding information
This course is being funded by the Devon and Torbay Combined County Authority (DTCCA). To be able to provide you with this opportunity we need to ensure that you are eligible for funding and have to collect personal data for government monitoring of funding. You must live in Devon and have been normally resident in the UK for the past 3 years and have a legal right to receive this funding. You do not already hold this qualification at this level. We normally provide these courses free of charge and claim all your funding from the DTCCA if:
- You are attempting to achieve your first full level 2 (Excluding English or maths)
- You are unemployed, seeking work, claiming benefits and have annual earnings of less than £26,800
- You are employed or self-employed, but have annual earnings of less than £26,800
