Landmark Launchpad: creative pathways

Overview

Are you interested in the creative and arts sector but unsure about your next step? This course is for young people aged 16 to 25 who would like to build confidence, gain skills, and explore creative careers. It is ideal for people who are unemployed, considering a change, or looking to develop employability skills through practical experience and industry insight. Places are allocated through a simple selection process to ensure the programme is suitable for your needs and aspirations.

You will explore a wide range of creative industry roles, including marketing, customer service, technical theatre, stage management, production, design, and community engagement. Alongside this, you will develop confidence, communication, teamwork, digital, budgeting, and employability skills. You will also learn how to identify your strengths, write applications, prepare for interviews, and recognise the transferable skills that can support your future goals.

You will learn through workshops, projects, and group activities at the Landmark Theatre. You will meet theatre professionals, explore backstage areas, marketing and design projects, and develop workplace skills with Learn Devon tutors. Learning is interactive, supportive, and designed to build confidence. The programme runs over 8 weeks and combines Learn Devon employability sessions with creative industry experiences delivered by Landmark Theatre staff.

Entry requirements

No previous experience in the creative industries is required. All you need is enthusiasm, reliability, and a willingness to participate. Applicants must be able to commit to the full programme and attend a chat to discuss their interests, goals, and support needs.

Assessment criteria

There are no formal exams. You will work towards personal learning and employability goals and review your progress throughout the programme. Tutors will support you to recognise and record the skills, experience, and achievements you gain, helping you prepare for future employment, volunteering, or further learning opportunities.

What do I need?

You do not need any specialist equipment or previous experience. All learning materials will be provided. Please wear comfortable clothing and suitable footwear for practical activities around the theatre. Support and reasonable adjustments can be discussed before the course starts.

This course is delivered in partnership between Learn Devon and Landmark Theatre. Places are limited and recruitment takes place through a selection process. The programme focuses on developing skills, confidence and experience and does not guarantee employment.

A notebook and pen may be useful for recording ideas and reflections. If you have access to a laptop, tablet, or smartphone, this may help you complete research and creative tasks, although this is not essential.

What can I do next?

After completing the programme, you may progress to volunteering opportunities, further training, employability programmes, Connect to Work, the Employment Hub, apprenticeships, or employment within the creative, cultural, or wider customer service sectors. The skills gained are transferable to many careers and learning pathways.
