Young Asylum Seekers’ Exhibition: Celebrating creativity and community

Learn Devon was proud to celebrate the achievements of its young asylum seeker learners at a special exhibition held at Positive Light Projects in Exeter on Saturday 4th July 2026.

Delivered in partnership with the Virtual School, Devon County Council’s Children’s Services Young Asylum Team, Positive Light Projects and Sarah Taylor (an independent artist), the exhibition provided an opportunity for learners to showcase a wide range of artwork developed during their time with Learn Devon. The display highlighted artistic talent and personal stories of learning, growth and resilience.

Visitors from across the local community attended the free event, where they were able to meet the young artists, learn more about their experiences and view the inspiring work they had created. The exhibition created a welcoming space for creativity, celebration and community.

Attendees were full of praise for both the artwork and the positive impact of the programme.

One visitor said: “This is beyond an exhibition! It strikes me as a real, accessible and proactive effort to support these young people in achieving a sense of belonging.”

Another commented: “Fantastic to see what the students are doing and learning at Learn Devon. The young people were so proud to show me their work.”

A third visitor added: “I was so pleased to learn about this programme and see the beautiful work that the young people have created.”

The event was a wonderful celebration of creativity and achievement, demonstrating the positive difference that learning opportunities can make in the lives of young people. Learn Devon would like to thank everyone who attended and helped make the exhibition such a success.
