Digital skills for ESOL learners

Overview

This 5-week course is for adults living in or near Ilfracombe who want to improve their digital skills in a small, friendly class. It is especially helpful if you want to learn how to use Google Classroom and feel more confident using a computer. All ESOL levels are welcome.

You will learn simple digital skills to help you use computers generally, use Google Classroom and take part in Learn Devon’s online lessons if you wish to in the future. You will learn basic computer skills you can use in everyday life.

You will learn in a small group with a friendly tutor. You will use a laptop and take part in easy, practical activities. The tutor will guide you step by step and give you lots of support.

Entry requirements

There are no special entry requirements. You do not need to know much about computers. All ESOL levels can join.

Assessment criteria

There is no exam. Your tutor will support you and check your progress through class activities. You will practise skills until you feel confident.

What do I need?

Please bring a pen and paper to make notes. We will provide laptops, but you can bring your own if you prefer.

What can I do next?

After this course, you can join one of our online ESOL classes or a face‑to‑face ESOL class in Ilfracombe. Staff can help you choose the right course.

Funding information

We provide Tailored learning opportunities on behalf of the Devon and Torbay Combined County Authority (DTCCA) who fund this learning and have to collect personal data for government monitoring of funding. You must live in Devon and have been normally resident in the UK for the past 3 years and have a legal right to receive this funding. We normally provided these courses free of charge, but if a fee is charged to you as a learner or your employer then we only receive half the funding from the DTCCA.
