At Learn Devon we believe learning changes lives and Coronavirus won’t stop us in delivering on our mission. Our classes are taught by tutors with lots of passion and years of expertise and they have been working hard adapting the way they teach to these challenging times. We have learners from 19 to 90 years of age, from all walks of life and we want to make sure everyone feels included and offered opportunities to grow.
Our tutor Susie Nicholls has been delivering English classes to Syrian refugees online through videoconferencing. Since her learners were busy looking after their children they took turns, women learning whilst men took care of childcare and visa versa.
Carol Harris has been in contact with her groups via phone, email and post and setting up video call sessions that begin next week. She is also working on resolving issues around internet/laptop access and learner anxiety over learning online. She has two elderly learners to whom she is sending letters and work via post and is planning to call them up this week to see how they are getting on.
If you want to hear what Carol’s learners say about her watch the video below (recorded pre-lockdown).
Learners are at the heart of everything we do so over the next few weeks we are going to be updating our website with stories of how we are supporting our learners through these challenging times. Watch this space!
