Supporting DCC staff with employment uncertainties
Learn Devon has been providing training and support for Devon County Council (DCC) staff at risk of redundancy.
Over the last few months, Learn Devon has delivered seven sets of workshops to support staff within DCC services as they go through a restructuring process. Delivered online by a Learn Devon tutor, the workshops have helped attendees enhance their personal statements, identify what transferable skills they can offer future employers and worked on developing their confidence when interviewing for a new role.
So far, supported staff have come from a number of DCC services: Executive PA, Human Resources, Payroll, Intervention, Strategy & Performance, Systems Development and Adult Provision Eastern Devon Integrated Adult Social Care. In addition to this, support has also been provided for the North Devon NHS Trust.
For some staff, especially those who have not had to apply for a job in the while, preparing a personal statement or getting ready for an interview can feel like a new and daunting experience. Several staff who attended the course provided feedback on how they found the experience beneficial. One attendee commented:
“Very useful. I’ve not really had to think about transferable skills and personal statements for some time and this has helped me know where to start.”
Another attendee added:
“Thanks for this helpful session, I will take away how to write a personal statement and know what my transferable skills are.”
As part of the ongoing support, Learn Devon has also been requested to provide further sessions on employment readiness, transferable skills, personal statements and interview skills. All workshops will be delivered online through Teams and are about one hour in length.
