“My first week as a Learn Devon apprentice”
Posted on: 30 September 2016
Five apprentices have recently started at Learn Devon in Exmouth and Tavistock. Here, Emily, who is working in our Business Support team, tells us how her first week has gone…
I’ve been very excited about starting my apprenticeship in business support with Learn Devon here in Exmouth, so when Monday finally came round I was definitely raring to go. Having also recently moved to the town, I’m not just learning about the course but also the area too.
I’ve never worked in an office environment before, so my first week has been really interesting getting to understand the way everything runs! What this web page does, how this program allows us to find out this, remembering which name goes with which face – there’s lots to learn. At first it all seems like a lot to take in, but as you begin to actually put the information you’ve been given in to practice, you start to feel part of the team quickly.
During the first week, I have completed several online courses which will help me during my employment with Devon County Council, as well as being taught the basics of web and computer programs which are used in the day-to-day running of the centre.
There are three of us doing apprenticeships here in Exmouth (Marcus and I doing business support, and Paige customer service), as well as Harry and Lewis over in the Tavistock centre. We all got the chance to meet up at the start of the week, and had a lot of fun running around the town on a treasure hunt and getting to know each other!
I’m really looking forward to developing my abilities and learning new skills over the course of my apprenticeship, as well as making good friends within the Learn Devon team! Combined with my current skills set, and the qualifications I will achieve here, I am excited to see where life takes me.
