We have a fantastic range of evening and weekend courses in arts and crafts, photography, and creative writing – perfect if you work 9 to 5 or have other commitments during the day. Check out what’s on when in the list below.
If you see something you’d like to do, but it’s not on in your area or the times or dates don’t suit you, find more courses using our online search or contact your local centre – if there’s enough interest in your area, they may be able to put on your course.
Evening courses
Digital photography and digital imaging
Arts Centre, Bideford. Thursdays 6 June 6:30 – 8:30pm
Open to all, but please note that the course may involve some outdoor photo-shoots with some walking. No previous experience necessary. Take part in guided photo shoots with tutor support and suggestions on ways you can produce outstanding views. Find out more.
Creative writing: telling your story
Kennaway Centre, Exmouth. Tuesdays 11 June 5:45 – 8:15pm
Working in groups, as well as individually, we will look at techniques to enhance your descriptive writing, making it more interesting, adding detail and considering openings and endings which create an impact. Find out more.
Mini sculpture workshop
Hatherleigh Community Centre, Hatherleigh. Tuesday 11 June 6:30 – 8:30pm
Make sculpture from ‘plaster of paris’ using moulding and carving techniques. You do not need any experience, just an open attitude. Find out more.
Printmaking and bookbinding: for all
Gate House, Totnes. Wednesdays 12 June 7 – 9pm
This is a course suitable for all levels; any existing skills are welcomed and can be built on and developed. You will develop a range of skills used by Printmaker’s and Bookbinder’s, applying these to produce a number of artefacts. Find out more.
Stained glass
Alexander Centre, Tavistock. Tuesdays 18 June 6:45 – 9pm
You will be making a stained-glass object. This will involve: glass cutting and grinding, copper foiling, soldering. You will learn skills and techniques. Find out more.
Still life painting
Arts Centre, Bideford. Mondays 24 June 6:30 – 8:30pm
You will be learning drawing and painting skills to make a finished painting or drawing using the media of your choice. You will be learning: proportion, perspective, composition, measurement techniques to make your finished image. Find out more.
Weekend courses
Printmaking: make unique greeting cards
Arts Centre, Bideford. Saturday 8 June 10am – 3:30pm
You will learn some simple printing techniques, including stamping and printing from handmade card blocks to make beautiful unique greetings cards. You will be able to experiment with colour and use different card and paper. Find out more.
Stained glass panel
Arts Centre, Bideford. Saturday 8 June 10am – 1pm (Please note this course will run on 3 alternate Saturdays)
You will be making a stained-glass panel. This will involve: glass cutting and grinding, copper foiling, soldering and patination. There will be a range of designs for you to choose from. Find out more.
Wet felt making workshop
Ashburton Arts Centre, Ashburton. Saturday 15 June 10am – 12:30pm
Using colour in a creative and thoughtful way and the softest of merino wools, this taster session will teach you everything you need to know to try this technique again in the future. You may be shown a selection of artists and designers to inspire your work. Find out more.

Textile art: batik and fabric painting
