“It’s been a month to remember”
Posted on: 10 November 2016
My first month working at The Kennaway Centre in Exmouth has rolled by so quickly. I started this adventure at the end of September with Emily and Paige (the other two apprentices in Exmouth) and it has so far been a great experience. From working hard on tasks to eating delicious cakes it has definitely been a month to remember.
Being only 17, my first week as an apprentice was a lot to take in. At the start of the week it was all about getting to know everyone in the office and remembering what software we will be frequently using. Later on, we met up with the Tavistock apprentices, Harry and Lewis, to go through with our assessor what we will be studying over the next two years.
By the second week, I was getting stuck into finance. Jenna, the Senior Finance and Quality Officer, showed me how to use numerous sites and software. She then gave me tasks which set me up for the rest of the week.
In week three, Emily, Paige and I sat down with our assessors to discuss in detail what units we will be studying. With Paige studying Customer Service Level 2 and Emily and I studying Business Support Level 2, we will without doubt have a lot to learn.
After the meeting I rewarded myself with some impressive cake that the Exmouth team made for the tea and talk event which was held in the centre in aid of the Mental Health Foundation.
When week four came, I focused on completing work and making sure it was done successfully. On Friday afternoon, I helped paint some canvases. Painting isn’t a strong attribute of mine – I tried my best but it was nothing compared to Emily’s artistic talent!
One month into working with Learn Devon in Exmouth, I can safely say that everyone here has been so lovely and supportive. I am excited for what has yet to come.
