Featured Five: courses not to miss in November

As we continue with our autumn programme, here’s our latest pick of courses starting soon across Devon. These include some great craft, mindfulness and creative writing workshops.

If you see something you’d like to do but it’s not on in your area or the times or dates don’t suit you, find more courses using our online search or contact your local centre – if there’s enough interest in your area, they may be able to put on your course.

Creative writing: brainwaves to intriguing stories

Passmore Edwards Centre, Newton Abbot. Tuesday 13 November 2 – 4pm

Use a range of stimuli to kickstart your ideas and learn new techniques to help progress your writing to form new plot lines and characters. Find out more

Mindfulness for the brain

Ockment Centre, Okehampton. Tuesday 13 November 10am – 12noon

Are you worried about cognitive decline? This course will teach you Mindfulness techniques to help retain and even improve cognitive skills and overall mental agility. Find out more

Upcycle your cushions

Kennaway Centre, Exmouth. Thursday 15 November 10am – 12noon

Suitable for everyone interested in sewing and upcycling! You will learn how to re-use fabric/old jumpers to make cushions including adding applique, trimmings, zips and buttons. Find out more

Hand-dye Batik bags

Arts Centre, Bideford. Friday 16 November 1:30 – 3:30pm

You will gain an understanding of colour mixing, using hot wax as a resist and experimenting with batik tools to create a bag.  Find out more

Bookbinding for beginners

Younghayes Centre, Cranbrook, Exeter. Thursday 29 November 1 – 4pm

This is a relaxed and supportive workshop for anybody who wishes to explore the creative potential of bookbinding. Find out more
