This course is for anyone who does not speak English as a first language and would like to be able to read more confidently.
This course will help you to read and understand different types of text, including signs, leaflets, posters, articles and stories. You will meet new people from different countries and cultures, so it could be an excellent opportunity to make new friends.
Our weekly classes are small and welcoming, you will work with others and on your own. The online classes will be interactive and the tutors will use a variety of learning resources, including games and activities. You will be taught by supportive and friendly ESOL tutors who provide lots of practical help, guidance and support. Your tutor may also suggest activities you can do either inside or outside of the home to support your learning in class.
To enrol on this course, you will first need to talk to one of our friendly Learning Support Coordinators. They will arrange a meeting and give you some simple tasks to carry out to make sure that this is the right course for you and that you are placed on the correct qualification suited to your skill level. To make an appointment with our team please contact your local Learn Devon centre.
Your tutor will continually assess you and provide you with verbal and written feedback to help you make progress by completing your ILP (Individual Learning Plan) and by discussion in your classes. You will then have the opportunity take assessments at a Learn Devon centre at a level suited to you with Gateway qualifications in reading at the end of the course.
