Preparing to work with children

Overview

This course if for anyone who is thinking about a career in or is already working in the Health and Care sector. You may have been volunteering in a health and care setting. You may already have achieved the Entry 3 Award in Health and Care and want to learn more.

This course gives learners an understanding of the principles and values of working in the Health and Care sector. You will also learn about statutory and independent provision in Health and Social Care sector, the skills and knowledge you will need to be successful in chosen job roles.

You will take part in discussions as well as working on your own and in a group. There will be an assignment each week (quizzes, finding things out, etc.) which you must complete in your own before the next session. The course will take place in a classroom with a tutor present, there will also be some online learning.

Entry requirements

As this course leads to a Level 1 qualification you will be asked to complete a short initial skills check (in person or via Teams/Zoom) before enrolling on the course to make sure this course is right for you.

Assessment criteria

Throughout the course you will complete a portfolio which will be submitted to the awarding body. Your tutor will support you in making sure everything you need is included in the portfolio. There will be a simple ILP (Individual Learning Plan) which the tutor will discuss with you individually, to make sure the class is meeting your needs. You will also take part in discussions in the group about the session’s activities.

What do I need?

You will find a pen/pencil or notebook useful, your own laptop or tablet plus access to the internet for online learning.

You may wish to continue onto the Level 2 Award in Health and Care or another of our Skills & Development courses. You could also enrol on other Learn Devon courses such as Improve your Maths, Improve your English, Essential Digital Skills, or Learning for Work – please ask your tutor or visit our website. You could progress into a career in Health and Care.
