Preparation for GCSE maths

Overview

This course is for anyone considering studying GCSE Maths with us, either on the year-long course starting in September or the Fast Track course starting in January.

You will learn what is needed to successfully complete the foundation GCSE Maths course. You will be introduced to key topic areas including number, algebra, shape and space, geometry, and data handling, and develop an insight into the standard of work required to achieve a grade 4 or 5.

Our classes are small and welcoming. You will learn through a mix of whole-class teaching and independent work, including activities in breakout rooms, using Google Meet. Your tutor will provide clear guidance and practical support throughout the course. Daytime and evening classes are available so you can fit study around your commitments.

Entry requirements

There are no entry requirements for this course. If you would like to enrol on our main GCSE Maths course, you will be asked to complete two short assessments to make sure GCSE Maths is the right course for you. Our GCSE courses are free for anyone who has not already achieved a grade C (grade 4).

Assessment criteria

There is no formal assessment for this course although your tutor will give you feedback on any work you may need to do enable you to enrol on the main GCSE course. 

What do I need?

As this is an online course, you will need a reliable internet connection and a computer, tablet, or similar device to join the lessons. A MOBILE PHONE IS NOT SUITABLE FOR DOING THIS COURSE ON.You will also need a pen or pencil and a notebook, plus the items listed in the equipment list below. Squared paper is not essential, but can be very useful for organising your work. We use Google Classroom. If you are unfamiliar with it, you can attend one of our Google Classroom workshops.

You will need a calculator for this course. For the main GCSE course, we recommend the Casio fx-83GT PLUS, but any similar model will work. You will also need a simple geometry set, including a protractor and a 30cm ruler.

After completing this course, you may wish to enrol on one of our GCSE Maths courses, which start in September and January each year.
