Preparation for GCSE maths

Overview

This course is for anyone who may be thinking about doing a GCSE qualification with us, either as a year long course starting in September or our Fast Track course which begins in January.

You will learn about the requirements to successfully complete the Maths GCSE course. You will be given an introduction to topics such as number, algebra, shape and space, geometry and data handling and get an idea of the work required to gain a grade 4 or 5.

Our classes are small and welcoming, you will work with others and on your own through a combination of whole class teaching and individual work in breakout rooms using Google meet.  You will be taught by supportive and friendly tutors who provide lots of practical help and guidance. Courses are available online during the daytime or in evenings, so you can fit study around your own requirements. 

Entry requirements

There are no entry requirements for this course, although if you wish to enrol on our main GCSE maths course, you will be asked to complete two short assessments to ensure that the GCSE is the right course for you. Our GCSE courses are free for anyone who has not already achieved a grade C (grade 4). 

Assessment criteria

There is no formal assessment for this course although your tutor will give you feedback on any work you may need to do enable you to enrol on the main GCSE course. 

What do I need?

As this is an online course, you will need a good internet connection and a computer/tablet or similar device to connect to the lessons.  You will also need a pen, pencil and a notebook, as well as the items listed in the equipment list below. Squared paper, while not required, can be really useful to organise your work.  We use Google Classroom, if you are unfamiliar with this you can attend one of our Google classroom workshops.

You will need a calculator for this course, for the main GCSE course, we recommend the Casio fx-93GT PLUS but anything similar will work just as well here. You will also need a simple geometry set containing a protractor, as well as a 30cm ruler.
