Award in Alcohol Awareness (Level 1 )

Overview

This course is for individuals 19+ who are thinking about a career in health and care or who have an interest in developing their alcohol awareness. As this course leads to a Level 1 qualification you will be asked to complete a short initial skills check before enrolling on the course to make sure this course is right for you.

This course will help you: Know about differences in unit strengths; know the possible causes of alcohol misuse; recognise some of the physical and psychological effects of alcohol misuse; be aware of the effects that alcohol misuse can have on others; be aware of the health issues associated with alcohol misuse; recognise the effects of withdrawing from alcohol; know some of the agencies offering help and information about alcohol misuse

You will take part in discussions as well as working on your own and in a group. There will be an assignment each week (quizzes, finding things out, etc.) which you must complete in your own time before the next session as it counts towards the qualification.

Entry requirements

This course is at Level 1 so you will have demonstrated through the initial skills check that you can work at this level.

Assessment criteria

There will be a simple ILP (Individual Learning Plan) which the tutor will discuss with you individually, to make sure the class is meeting your needs. You will also take part in discussions in the group about the session’s activities. Throughout the course you will complete a portfolio which will be submitted to the awarding body. Your tutor will support you in making sure everything you need is included in the portfolio.

What do I need?

You will find a pen/pencil or notebook useful, or your own electronic device. For assignments you will need Office access to the internet and software to produce word documents.
