Overview

You will develop your skills and understanding in analysing and interpreting a variety of texts; clear communication; accurate and effective writing including a personal style of writing and the use of a wide variety of vocabulary, correct grammar, spelling and punctuation. Our classes are small and welcoming, you will work with others and on your own. You will be taught by supportive and friendly tutors who provide lots of practical help and guidance. The course is usually free of charge* and available online and in centres across Devon during the daytime or in evenings, so you can fit study around your own requirements. This is a fast track course and you must be able to commit to 2 x 3 hours of classroom teaching per week plus homework.

Assessment criteria

The exam dates set by Pearsons Edexcel are: 23/05/2025 and 06/06/25. All exams will be held at your local Learn Devon centre and under exam conditions. As these are national exams there is no flexibility around the dates and you should ensure you are available to attend on those dates.

What do I need?

You will need a pen, pencil and a notebook. If you are studying online, you will need to have access to a laptop or tablet and a reliable wi-fi network. It is essential that you can commit to weekly attendance as well as completing weekly homework. Homework will be used to practice and check your understanding of topics covered and provide feedback on your progress. You will need to commit to completing this each week as well as catching up with any missed sessions.

Our tutors are supportive and friendly, and they also work with our learning support assistants who are at hand to help you with any learning difficulties or disabilities you may have. Your progress will be tracked, and you will be encouraged to take responsibility for your own learning. Using a tailored learning plan our tutors will provide you with feedback to help you achieve your learning goals and predict your end grade.
