Overview
This course is for anyone needing a Grade 4 or above in GCSE English Language to boost career prospects, access further education or support family learning by improving their own English skills.
Our curriculum follows the Pearson GCSE English Language 2.0 syllabus (Grades 9-1). You will expand your vocabulary and learn a range of key skills in preparation for Paper 1 and Paper 2 exams: interpreting writers’ use of language and structure, using textual evidence, applying engaging writing techniques and communicating clearly and effectively. A separate spoken language focus builds confidence in presenting.
Our classes are small and welcoming. You will be taught online through Google Classroom by supportive and friendly tutors who provide lots of practical help and guidance. You will work with others and independently.
Entry requirements
This course is free*. To enrol on this course, you will need to talk to one of our friendly Learning Advisers. You will be asked to complete some simple tasks to make sure that this is the right course for you and that this is the correct class for your skill level. Assessment criteria
The examination dates for Summer 2027 series are 24.05.27 and 08.06.27 These are national examinations, so the dates are not movable. Both exams will be held at your nearest exam venue under formal exam conditions. The spoken language element is assessed online by your tutor during your course.
What do I need?
*This course is free if you do not have a GCSE English qualification or are looking to improve a D (3) grade equivalent or below. If you are looking to improve grades of C (4) or higher, we can investigate the possibility of self-funding.
You will need a pen, a highlighter and a notebook. It is essential that you can commit to weekly attendance as well as completing weekly homework. Homework will be used to practise and check your understanding of topics covered and provide feedback on your progress. It is crucial that you can commit to completing this each week as well as any missed sessions. Your first four sessions will determine whether you continue with the GCSE or move on to a Functional Skills qualification.
