Fast track living and working in the UK

Overview

If the UK is not your mother country, or if you would like to know more about the UK and its culture and institutions, this qualification course will improve your knowledge and understanding of living and working in the UK.

The Entry 1 course is an introduction to living and working in the UK. You will learn about the geography of the UK, what is available to you in your local community, your rights and responsibilities while living in the UK and how the education system works. This is not a language course but you can study this course while you study one of our ESOL English language courses. You will meet people from different countries and cultures, so it could be an excellent opportunity to make new friends.

Our lessons are fun and interactive. Our tutors are all experienced tutors who will give you help and guidance to gain this qualification. You will be learning either face to face or online in a small and welcoming class. You will work with others and on your own using a variety of resources including activities and games provided by the tutor. You may also work with online resources directed by the tutor.

Entry requirements

This is not a language course, so you will need to have some spoken and written knowledge of English to access the course. To enrol on this course, you will first need to talk to one of our friendly Learning Advisers. They will arrange a meeting and give you some simple tasks to carry out to make sure that this is the right course for you. They will also check your eligibility for funding. Assessment criteria

There is no exam. Your tutor will continually assess you and provide you with verbal and written feedback to help you make progress by completing your ILP (Individual Learning Plan) and by discussion in your classes. At the end of the course, if you are successful, you will gain a qualification.

What do I need?

You will need a pen, pencil, eraser and a notebook. A bilingual dictionary (in your first language) and an English dictionary may also be useful. If the course is online, you will need a tablet or laptop and a good wi-fi connection.

Access to the internet and a digital device at home is essential for home study and practice.

What can I do next?

After successfully completing this course, you would be able to progress to the Entry 3 Award for Living and Working in the UK. After having an assessment with one of our Learning Advisers, you may also enrol on one of our ESOL language qualification courses.
