Fast track Functional skills - English

Overview

This is a fast track English course for anyone who has the time to commit to completing the course in only 15 weeks. Fast Track English will enable you to gain an accredited Level 1 or Level 2 English Functional Skills qualification.

Fast Track English will help you build on the English skills you need for everyday life and work, such as writing official letters, emails and job application letters. You will also learn to look for the meaning in different types of writing. Our Fast Track English classes can be an opportunity to meet new people and to get to know them as you practise discussing different topics within your class.

Whether online or in our centres, our classes are small and welcoming. In the sessions, you will work with a group and on your own. The tutors will use lots of different learning resources in your class, including games and activities, to help you with your learning. You will be taught by supportive and friendly English tutors who provide lots of practical help, guidance and support. Entry requirements

This course is free. To enrol on this course, you will first need to talk to one of our friendly Learning Support Coordinators. They will arrange a meeting and give you some simple tasks to carry out to make sure that this is the right course for you and that this is the correct class for your skill level. Assessment criteria

Your tutor will give you spoken and written feedback to help you make progress by completing your ILP (Individual Learning Plan) and by discussion with you in your classes. You will be able to take an English Functional Skills qualification at either Level 1 or Level 2, in speaking, listening & communication, reading and writing.

What do I need?

This course is free and has no special requirements.

It would be helpful to have access to the internet and a device such as a smartphone, tablet or laptop to access further learning resources online. If this course is online, you will need a laptop or tablet to access it.

You will need a pen, pencil, eraser, a notebook and/or A4 folder. Access to a paper English dictionary would also be useful.

What can I do next?

You can make progress by taking Pearsons English Functional Skills qualifications up to Level 2 (a Learning Support Coordinator can explain this to you when you speak to them).
