Exploring occupation in health & social care ESOL

Overview

This course is for individuals 19+ who are thinking about a career in the health and care sector and whose first language is not English (ESOL learners). As this course leads to a qualification you will be asked to complete a short initial skills check before enrolling on the course to make sure this course is right for you.

This course will help you identify - job role duties, requirements of personal presentation; timekeeping and attendence; and conduct towards others. Main procedures related to own work role and what happens if these are not followed. Items of equipment used; the purpose of the equipment, how to use equipment safely; and how to care for and store equipment. Fire procedures. Accident procedures. The course takes place on Tuesday evenings at Wonford in the RILD Building. You will take part in discussions as well as working on your own and in a group.

Entry requirements

This course is at Level 1 so you will have demonstrated through the initial skills check that you can work at this level (unless you are already studying with Learn Devon).

Assessment criteria

There will be a simple ILP (Individual Learning Plan) which the tutor will discuss with you individually, to make sure the class is meeting your needs. Throughout the course you will complete a portfolio of evidence (workbook and worksheets) which will be submitted to the awarding body. Your tutor will support you in making sure everything you need is included in the portfolio.

What can I do next?

Immediate progression would be onto a Level 1 qualification in Health and Care or you could enrol on another of our Skills & Development courses.
