ESOL: Speaking and listening

Overview

this course is for people who do not speak English as their first language. You will learn to speak and listen in English with more confidence and will finish with a Speaking & Listening exam that will give you an Entry 1 level qualification.

You will learn English for everyday life in the UK. You will practise speaking and listening. You will learn useful words for talking to people, going to the doctor, using buses and trains, and understanding British culture. You will meet other learners and make new friends. 

You will learn online with a friendly teacher. You will work with other learners and by yourself. You will play games and do fun activities. Your teacher may give you small tasks to do at home.

Entry requirements

Before you start, you will meet with a Learn Devon Learning Adviser. They will ask you to do a few simple tasks to check this is the right course for you including a BKSB test to check you are working at the right level for this course.

Assessment criteria

Your teacher will help you see your progress. You will talk about your learning in class and complete a learning plan. At the end, you will take a Speaking and Listening Exam at a Learn Devon centre.

What do I need?

You will need a laptop or tablet with a camera and microphone, and good internet connection. You cannot complete this course on your mobile phone as it is too small to see the learning.

You will need a pen, pencil, eraser and notebook. A dictionary (English or bilingual) is also useful.
