Distance Learning - maths

Overview

This course is for anyone who wants to improve their career prospects or gain access to further education. You must be able to work on your own and have the ability to self-direct your own learning.

Our curriculum follows the latest Pearson Functional Skills in Maths content (2019 reforms). This includes understanding numbers, calculations, time, shape and space and using data.

Work will be set by your tutor on Google classroom for you to complete each Tuesday. The course will take you approximately 55 hours to complete. You can have 8 hours with a tutor to support your learning at mutually agreed times.

Entry requirements

If you have not yet achieved a level 2 Functional Skills qualification in Maths, or a grade 4 at GCSE, you can enrol on this course. You will first need to meet with one of our friendly team and they will ask you to do a skills check to make sure that this is the right course for you. To make an appointment with our team please contact your local Learn Devon centre.

Assessment criteria

You will take an exam after you have the covered the syllabus and you and your tutor think you are ready. The exam will take place at your local Learn Devon centre under exam conditions. There will be 2 papers, the first is a non-calculator paper.

What do I need?

You will need a good internet connection and a computer/tablet or similar device to access Google Classroom. You will also need a pen, paper, pencil, 30cm ruler, calculator and a geometry set containing a protractor. 

What can I do next?

Once a level 2 has been achieved you may wish to progress to a GCSE maths course.
