Digital skills for ESOL learners

Overview

If the UK is not your mother country, this course will improve your knowledge and understanding of using the internet to find information and stay in touch with friends and family.

You will learn about how to stay safe online in the UK, shop online, as well as how to find important information such as travel timetables. You will also learn how to access the internet to communicate with friends and family via social media and access sites to listen to your favourite music. You will be learning alongside other learners who are also non-native English speakers, so you will also have the chance to communicate in English and make friends. 

You will be learning online or face to face in a small and welcoming class. You will work with others and on your own using a variety of resources including activities and games provided by the tutor. You may also work with online resources directed by the tutor. You will be taught by supportive and friendly ESOL tutors who provide lots of practical help and guidance.

Entry requirements

To enrol on this course, you will first need to talk to one of our friendly Learning Advisers. They will arrange a meeting and give you some simple tasks to carry out to make sure that this is the right course for you. Assessment criteria

Your tutor will continually assess you and provide you with verbal and written feedback to help you make progress by completing your ILP (Individual Learning Plan) and by discussion in your classes.

What do I need?

You will need a pen, pencil, eraser and a notebook. A calculator and a bilingual dictionary (in your first language) and an English dictionary may also be useful.

What can I do next?

After successfully completing this course and having an assessment with one of our Learning Advisers, you may enrol on one of our ESOL language qualification courses.
