Certificate in assessing vocational achievement (Level 3 bootcamp)

Overview

This course is for adults aged 19+ who assess or wish to assess learners in both the workplace and training environments. Ideal for those working in education, apprenticeships, vocational training or employer‑based development who need full assessor competence across all assessment settings.

You will learn the full assessment cycle, covering: assessment principles, assessing occupational competence in real workplaces, and assessing vocational skills, knowledge and understanding in classroom or workshop environments. You will gain the skills needed to carry out fair, valid and reliable assessments.

You will attend online class sessions and learn through workplace‑based assessment activities, written tasks, observations, professional discussions, and a portfolio of evidence. There will be assignments which must be completed in your own time.

Entry requirements

You must be aged 19+, eligible to study in the UK and able to work at Level 3, you will be asked to complete a short skills check as part of your enrolment. You will need a valid I.D and may be asked to produce proof of income/employment status for funding purposes. This course is run under the Skills Bootcamp and your eligibility will be checked with a Learning Adviser at enrolment

Assessment criteria

With the support of your tutor you will build a portfolio of evidence, including workplace observations, examinations of work products, questioning, witness testimonies and assessment planning. There is no exam.

What do I need?

You will need a laptop or tablet and a good internet connection to join the online class.  A smart phone will not be suitable. You should have digital skills to enable you to upload work and use Google Classroom, we have support sessions to help with this.

What can I do next?

Progression routes include Level 4 Internal Quality Assurance qualifications, education and training qualifications, or roles as an assessor, workplace trainer or learning and development practitioner.

Funding information

To take part in the programme participants must: be aged 19+, living at a postcode within Devon, Plymouth or Torbay, be employed part-time or full-time, self-employed or unemployed, as well as adults returning to work after a break. You must have the right to work in the UK. Please note you can only undertake one Skills Bootcamp per funding year (Apr-Mar). If you are receiving benefits please contact your work coach about eligibility and travel expenses. For employed persons looking to elevate their current role, your employer contributes to the cost of training.
