Amazing tin can repurposing

Who is this course for?

A unique opportunity to discover how you can recycle and repurpose some of those tin cans we put into the recycling box each week. This workshop will be suitable for families with children over the age of 3 years.

Course content

You will work with tin cans to repurpose them into wind chimes, stilts and bird feeders…

Support and feedback

The tutor will be on hand to demonstrate and support you throughout the session.

Additional costs and requirements

Everyone is welcome to join the session. It doesn’t matter if you have never done anything like this before or the concept is not new to you. Please bring along empty tin cans making sure they are well washed and free of any obvious sharp edges. Syrup tins with lids will particularly useful so get your family saving their tin cans for you. Don’t worry if bringing cans along is not something you can do as there will be a supply available. You will be working with tools, paint, PVA and glue guns so don’t wear your favourite outfits.

We can only accept a maximum of 3 children per accompanying adult, maximum age 11, and a minimum age of 3 years old. 

Please contact your local centre to provide details of your accompanying child/ren.

Will I have to do anything outside of the session?

No, projects will be designed to ensure every stage of the projects can be completed within the session.

About the tutor

Your tutor will be Gillian Lamey. Gillian started working for Learn Devon in 2001. Before joining Learn Devon she ran play schemes and taught accredited Playwork and Early Years courses across the UK. Gillian has assessed both Playwork and Early Years NVQ’s and worked for CACHE as an exam marker. She enjoys travelling, especially being on Safari and enjoying time with her Kenyan Goddaughter and her family.  Over the last 20 years Gillian has been involved in several voluntary projects in Kenya, including building a school kitchen and a playing field. In her free time she likes to read, spend time with her family and be on the water with her husband. Gillian loves her interaction with her learners, and is passionate about supporting them to gain confidence, learn new skills and progress towards their personal goals.
