Wellbeing for over 50's
Who is this course for?
Has a lasting sense of wellbeing eluded you in your life so far?
It’s never too late!
Using established, effective and down to earth meditation and relaxation methods that are well-suited to over 50’s, this course will teach you how to re-connect with the natural positivity and wellbeing within you and, practically, how you can deepen and strengthen this through regular practice of these methods in your daily life.
What you learn is underpinned by Mindfulness throughout. Mindfulness is now proven to be as good, if not better than medication for relieving anxiety and depression and is recommended by NICE (National Institute of Clinical Excellence) as an evidence-based treatment for depression.
If you like to take charge of stress, feel more peace and happiness and enhance your overall wellbeing, then this course is for you!
In this course you will learn how to:
o Build inner strength, peace, positivity, resilience, clarity and focus through Pure Meditation Foundation
o Relax deeply through focused Relaxation techniques using the breath, body and visualisation.
o Release tension and feel energised and relaxed (at the same time!) through some easy, gentle relaxing stretches, which will be taught sensitively and tailored to individual need.
The course will also enable you to:-
• Take charge of stressful thoughts & emotions and develop your ability to put your mind at ease
• Develop focus & concentration
• Reduce self criticism and judgement and increase compassion and empathy towards yourself and others.
• Improve sleep and reduce the risk of headaches, migraines & other tension-related problems
Support and feedback
Through your practice of what is taught and the impact on your life!
Paul will give each learner feedback within the sessions or outside of the sessions (as appropriate).
Additional costs and requirements
You will need to wear loose clothing, or at least clothing that is not too restrictive and bring a notebook and pen
You may be eligible for a learner bursary if you can demonstrate that attending a course will improve your wellbeing. Eligibility is determined after a short interview with a member of our learning support team. You must be aged over 19 on 31st August 2017 and your household income below £15,276 to access this fund. Contact your local centre for more details.
Will I have to do anything outside of the session?
Each week, Paul will encourage you to practice what you learn outside of the sessions as this will help to consolidate your learning and notice the effect on your daily life of practicing meditation and relaxation methods. However, this is a recommendation rather than a requirement and how much/little you do is entirely your choice.
About the tutor
Paul Beard (OPRC Registered Teacher of Pure Meditation Foundation, Dip P. Couns.Coach &) is a qualified Meditation & Mindfulness Teacher and Coach.
Since 2001, Paul has been training and teaching individuals and groups in self-development, well-being and stress management practices.
He has been a Learn Devon Wellbeing Tutor since 2014.
