Using poetry to express how you feel: nature: FULL
Who is this course for?
This workshop may suit you if you have an interest in learning about poetry.
We will read and discuss three poems in each session and explore possible interpretations. One of the delights of sharing poetry is the different ideas each person brings.
This course is suitable for anyone who is interested in poetry.
You will be accompanied in your online virtual classroom with other learners. Your tutor will give practical demonstrations, have discussions, set tasks, give feedback and will support you throughout the course.
We will explore a different aspect of the natural world each week, including landscapes, plants, birds and animals. We will then write our own poems with an option to share.
Writing even a few words can be uplifting and provides a creative outlet. The flow from immersive writing can be similar to meditation and reduce stress and anxiety. Writing strengthens imagination and can provide a sense of escapism. It can increase your confidence and the tutor aims to provide you with ideas and stimulation for you to continue to write after the course.
Additional costs and requirements
This course is delivered online and provided free of charge. You will, however, need a computer or a tablet with a stable internet connection, as well as a built in or external microphone and camera to attend the course.
About the tutor
Your tutor will be Carla Jenkins. Carla started working for Learn Devon in July 2019. Before joining Learn Devon she was a secondary school English teacher and preceding that she taught English as a foreign language in London and Madrid. She is passionate about creative writing and that’s why she is currently studying for a master’s degree in the subject and working on her first novel. Yoga is another passion of hers and she attends classes as much as she can! Carla also loves walking in the beautiful Devon countryside, spending time with family and friends, cooking and bird watching. She loves teaching because she believes education is a great leveller, and that one should never stop learning. She believes the brain is like any other muscle – you have to exercise it to keep it strong!
