Free range fiction: creative writing

Who is this course for?

This is a great opportunity to be inspired to write, working alongside like-minded individuals. It’s ideal for writers who like to write fiction or semi autobiographical work in a group & be taught by an experienced tutor. We will be looking at interesting titles & unusual scenarios to whet your appetite for modern fiction, prose or poetry

Course content

You will be working in pairs & groups to develop ideas with the help of planning devices. You will learn how to build structure and detail into your writing with the help of visual aids & handouts and get the support you need to write succinctly & successfully.

Support and feedback

You will receive online tutor feedback plus feedback in class. Also, an overview of your work as you progress (initial, mid-term & end of course).

You may be eligible for a learner bursary if you can demonstrate that attending a course will improve your wellbeing. Eligibility is determined after a short interview with a member of our learning support team. You must be aged over 19 on 31st August 2018 and your household income below £15,276 to access this fund. Contact your local centre for more details. 

Will I have to do anything outside of the session?

You will need to write a piece after each session, i.e. 5 pieces of work, preferably word-processed, but handwritten is acceptable.

About the tutor

Jill teaches Creative Writing for Learn Devon, including fiction, autobiographical & biographical pieces and poetry. Jill has taught in a number of different settings: ranging from schools to adult and community learning centres.

She has a Masters in Education, specialising in inclusion and dyslexia, and is always looking for different ways for people to access their creativity and be innovative.
