Who is this course for?

This course is offered online to support continued learning during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Please note that if/when this course can run face to face, the time and day will remain the same, along with your tutor.

The venue for direct learning will be the Passmore Edwards Centre Newton Abbot.

This course is for anyone wanting to improve their maths. This can range from entry level all the way up to Level 2 qualifications. You can enrol at any time throughout the year and our tutors will tailor your learning exactly around your needs. This is a very flexible course, you will work at your own pace and you will be set your own goals. There will be lots of progression opportunities available to you along the way.

We encourage anyone to enrol who wants to improve their maths, whether that’s to help their children with their homework, to gain a qualification for further studies or just to brush up on their skills. This course will help you boost your employment opportunities and prepare you for further study.

Course content

As the course covers different qualification levels the content will be designed to meet your exact needs. This will include numbers and their use in everyday life, working with data and creating graphs.

Our classes are small and welcoming, you will work with others and on your own. You will also be using a computer to do some research and other activities to enhance your study experience. We encourage you to regularly attend our classes and to spend some extra time on self-study at home. You will be working with your tutor in a virtual learning environment using an online video platform called Zoom. 

You will be accompanied in your virtual class, with other learners.

Support and feedback

Our tutors are supportive and friendly, they work with our learning support assistants who are at hand to help you with any learning difficulties or disabilities. Your progress will be tracked, and you will be encouraged to take responsibility for your own learning. Using a tailored learning plan our tutors will provide you with feedback to help you achieve your learning goals.

Additional costs and requirements

You will need a laptop / PC / phone / tablet with a camera and microphone/headphones and a good internet connection.

To enrol in this course, you will first need to meet with one of our friendly Learning Support Coordinators. Through a skills check they will make sure that this is the right course for you. To make an appointment with our team please contact your local Learn Devon centre.

We will supply you with all the text books you may need during your course. You will need to bring along an A4 file, writing materials and lined or squared paper to your first lesson. For some lessons you may also need a geometry set, including a ruler, protractor and compass.

Will I have to do anything outside of the session?

To achieve your learning goals, we will encourage you to do weekly homework. This will help you practice and enhance your progression.

About the tutor

Your tutor will be Vince Parker

Vince gained his teaching qualification at Leeds University and a Master’s in Education from Cambridge University. He joined us in 2019, teaching maths.

He has gained extensive knowledge through teaching at a wide range of organisations including secondary, special schools and further education. He is also a qualified Life Coach and he can use all this experience to tailor the work for all learners.
