Fast track Maths

Passmore Edwards Centre, Newton Abbot

Who is this course for?

You can only enrol on this course through a friendly chat and skills check with an experienced Learn Devon Learning Support Co-ordinator.

Are you in need of your Functional skills maths to go on to university, get on an access course at college, or to be able to apply for a job at your current work place or with another company. Then this could be the course for you.

This course is aimed at learners who need a level 2 Functional Skills qualification by the end of August and are able to commit to the work required to complete the course in only 14 weeks.

Course content

You will need to complete an assessment to ensure that you are working at a level that means that you can pass the course within in the time frame. Upon completing the assessment, you will be given feedback and advise from our friendly and supportive assessment team and if you are at the required level you will be enrolled upon the course.

Once you are enrolled onto the course you will start on a 14-week programme focusing on all the key topics, ensuring that you have covered everything you need to be ready to complete the test at the end of the academic year.

Support and feedback

During the course your tutor will explain each topic and support you with developing your knowledge and understanding of that topic through the use of activities and practice questions. You will receive feedback on your progress and the tutor will help you with anything that you find difficult, suggesting alternative ways of looking at the topic where possible.

They will mark the work that you are set to complete at home and give you clear feedback.

Throughout the course the lessons will focus on one topic at a time. This will enable the tutor to feedback to you on whether have reached the required level to pass that topic, or if you still need to develop your understanding and knowledge.

If you require further practice or support the tutor will ensure that this is put in place and a plan is created to support you as best as possible within the time available.

Additional costs and requirements

Your assessment will need to show that your current level of maths will enable you to complete the level 2 within the 14-week programme.

If you require more times to complete a level 2 qualification, then our assessment team will go through your assessment with you highlighting the areas that you need to work on and explain the other classes that we currently have running that you could join.

Will I have to do anything outside of the session?

Due to the short nature of the course, there will be an expectation that each learner will be completing work at home.

This work will be set by the tutor and then marked with feedback ready for the following weeks lesson.
