Simon has spent most of his working life in the field of Electronic Engineering and was previously the Technical Director of his own instrumentation manufacturing company before undertaking his teacher training.
Simon has a 1st class honours degree in ICT with Education from Exeter University, a PGCE incorporating a Diploma in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector (DTLLS), and a specialism in teaching maths; a level 5 Additional Diploma in Numeracy.
Simon is a keen musician and composer and has for the last ten years performed each summer season at Sterts Theatre in their musical shows.
“I’m a great believer in ‘experiential learning’, and firmly believe that people learn by doing. This is so important, particularly with a subject like ICT; it is the familiarity with everyday computing tasks that build on a person’s levels of confidence and skills.”
“Despite my technical background I hate jargon: There is nothing I enjoy more than to clarify some of the gobbledygook and mythology that surround the subject of information technology.”
