Italian: beginners 1
Who is this course for?
This course is for anyone with no, or extremely limited knowledge of the Italian language, or for learners who have previously attended a short Introduction to Italian.
It is also suitable for anyone who has a little basic knowledge and vocabulary and want to consolidate at a beginner’s pace.
The aim of the course is to enable you to start to communicate in Italian at basic level. So, if you are looking to start learning Italian and would like to do this with a group of like-minded learners, then this is the course for you.
This 8 week Italian Beginners course will teach you how to exchange information in simple everyday situations.
You will learn how to:
– give and receive basic greetings and personal information
– use numbers and currency
– order and pay for food and drink in a restaurant or cafe
– ask for and give directions
By the end of the course you will feel confident in the situations suggested above and will be have started to understand basic sentence structure.
Support and feedback
There will be a variety of activities to assess progress throughout the course.
You’ll complete an individual learning plan (ILP) and there will be opportunities for you to discuss your progress and aims with your tutor. The tutor will also provide written feedback
Additional costs and requirements
No previous knowledge needed
You’ll need a pen, paper and a ring-binder for storing notes, hand-outs and homework.
At the start of the course your tutor will advise you of any course book that might be required. Please don’t purchase anything before the course.
Will I have to do anything outside of the session?
Yes. You will learn more effectively if you are able to practice and revise between the sessions.
Your tutor will give you short homework tasks to help consolidate and extend the work done in the weekly session.
You will also be encouraged to make use of other resources such as internet websites for self-study activities
About the tutor
‘Giusy’ was born and bought up in Genoa on the Italian Riviera and has been teaching Italian (from absolute beginners up to university level) for several years.
Known as ‘Giusy’ or ‘Josie’, she has a degree in Languages from The University of Genoa, where she studied English, Spanish, Portuguese and Latin American, amongst lots of other subjects.
Giusy is currently working for Learn Devon in Totnes and Newton Abbot.
She has helped learners and has run exams for many keen students up to GCSE level and encouraged a few learners to progress to university. She has also taught Italian to those wishing to move to Italy
She has also founded an Italian club in Totnes, for social events, which is an important part of life for many in Giusy’s beloved Italy.
