Italian: improvers 1
Who is this course for?
If you have already completed beginners courses in Italian and are now looking to use your Italian in a variety of real life situations Italian beginners plus 1 is the course for you.
Becoming more proficient in a language can be daunting on your own and is much more fun with a supportive tutor and a group, where you can practice with each other and share the joys and frustrations.
This 8-week course follows on from our Italian Beginners courses and is for anyone who wants to consolidate and develop their skills further
You will learn how to:
*Sort accommodation issues
*Read and respond to written notes and messages
*Read and extract information from leaflets, and brochures
Support and feedback
Initial assessment will identify your skills level at the start of the course and there will be a variety of activities to assess progress throughout the course.
You will complete an individual learning plan (ILP) and there will be opportunities for you to discuss your progress and aims with your tutor.
The tutor will also provide written feedback on any written work that you complete.
Additional costs and requirements
You will need to already understand some basic Italian to be able to undertake this course.
If you are new to the language please look on the website for one of our beginners courses.
You’ll need a pen, paper and a ring-binder for storing notes, hand-outs and homework.
Will I have to do anything outside of the session?
Yes. You will learn more effectively if you are able to practice and revise between the sessions.
Your tutor will give you short homework tasks to help consolidate and extend the work done in the weekly session.
You will also be encouraged to make use of other resources such as internet websites for self-study activities. Which will enable you to develop your knowledge of the subject even further.
About the tutor
‘Giusy’ was born and bought up in Genoa on the Italian Riviera and has been teaching Italian (from absolute beginners up to university level) for several years.
Known as ‘Giusy’ or ‘Josie’, she has a degree in Languages from The University of Genoa, where she studied English, Spanish, Portuguese and Latin American, amongst lots of other subjects.
Giusy is currently working for Learn Devon in Totnes and Newton Abbot.
She has helped learners and has run exams for many keen students up to GCSE level and encouraged a few learners to progress to university. She has also taught Italian to those wishing to move to Italy
She has also founded an Italian club in Totnes, for social events, which is an important part of life for many in Giusy’s beloved Italy.
