About the tutor

Sandy has been using British Sign Language for over 20 years, passing her Level One in 1993. She worked in a Mental Health Centre for many Years, using her skills with Deaf Clients, which encouraged her to go to University for two years to qualify as a Social Worker with Deaf People. She also did placements in a Sensory Team in North Yorkshire. Her time there was invaluable in using her signing Skills and working with the Deaf Community. She later went on to pass BSL Levels 2 and 3.

In 1997, she moved to North Devon, from Yorkshire, after successfully gaining the post as ‘Social Worker for the Deaf’. She started to teach BSL and Deaf Awareness, which she thoroughly enjoyed. The last two years of her working was spent as a part time Social Worker in Taunton.

In retirement, she has continued to teach Sign Language and Deaf Awareness to adults and children.
