Who is this course for?
The course is for the those with recent experience or who have completed a year or of more Spanish language courses and wish to move onto the next level in their language learning.
You should already know numbers and dates and be reasonably familiar with the language required to deal with some basic travel situations, greeting, brief conversations, ordering food and drink etc.
If you don’t continue to use it, you will lose it!
You will learn, practise and build on language such as:
Dialogues set in typical travel situations
Sorting accommodation issues
Eating in a restaurant
Read and respond to written notes and messages
Read and extract information from menus, leaflets, and brochures.
The language and culture of the country or countries
Study the structure of the language
Begin to manipulate the language for yourself
Use basic verbs and appropriate time frames
Activities designed to help you understand and use the language to communicate more confidently and effectively, such as:
Work individually, in pairs and small groups, as well as with the tutor and the whole class. Listening to recordings, watching video clips and computer-based activities, playing games.
Support and feedback
You’ll complete an individual learning plan (ILP). There is initial assessment and a variety of activities to assess your progress throughout the course. There’s discussion and written feedback with your tutor. This should be noted on your ILP.
Additional costs and requirements
At the start of the course your tutor will advise you of any course book that might be required. Please don’t purchase anything before the course.
You’ll need a pen, paper and a ring-binder for storing notes, hand-outs and homework.
You may like to bring a drink or refreshments
Will I have to do anything outside of the session?
Yes, effective language learning requires regular practise and reinforcement. You’ll be provided with short homework tasks to help consolidate and extend the work done in the weekly session.
About the tutor
Dr. Dilcia Pacheco – Tutor biography
Dilcia currently works as a Spanish and Italian Language Tutor for Learn Devon, Exeter College and private students.
Her country of origin is Venezuela where she completed a Law Degree at Venezuelan Central University. She came to Britain in the late 1970s to complete a Masters degree in Maritime Law at Glasgow University. She also completed a one year Diploma course in Development Administration and Planning, at Bristol University.
Having taught Spanish and Italian privately, since 1990, she decided to complete a British Teaching Adults qualification in 2000.
She is also is a British Red Cross Volunteer.
