Who is this course for?
Have you always wanted to learn Spanish?
Learning a language can be daunting on your own. It’s much easier with a supportive tutor and a group, where you can practice with each other and share the joys and frustrations.
This course is for anyone who would like to try out a language for the first time before committing to a longer course
This course will introduce you to Spanish pronunciation and simple everyday phrases and expressions.
This is a practical course. There will be dialogues, listening, reading and writing tasks.
There will be a tutor-led demonstrations as well as learner-led activities, group activities, role plays, etc.
You’ll take part in varied activities with some individual work, pair work and whole class presentations. The tutor will encourage you to participate and learn basic phrases.
This short course will give you and your tutor time to find out how you learn best and what interests you about learning a new language.
Support and feedback
There will be a variety of activities to informally assess progress throughout the course. You’ll complete an individual learning plan (ILP) and there will be opportunities for you to discuss your aims and progress with your tutor. The tutor will also provide written feedback.
Additional costs and requirements
You’ll need a pen, paper and a cardboard wallet for storing notes, hand-outs and homework.

This course is for anyone who would like to try out a language for the first time.
Will I have to do anything outside of the session?
Yes. You will learn more effectively if you are able to practice and revise between the sessions. Your tutor will give you short homework tasks to help consolidate and extend the work done in the weekly session.
You will also be encouraged to make use of other resources such as internet websites for self-study activities.
You may be eligible for a learner bursary if you can demonstrate that attending a course will improve your wellbeing. Eligibility is determined after a short interview with a member of our learning support team. You must be aged over 19 on 31st August 2017 and your household income below £15,276 to access this fund. Contact your local centre for more details.
About the tutor
Rosa Carriegas currently works as a Spanish tutor for Learn Devon and Plymouth Adult and Community Learning Service. Rosa has been teaching Spanish in the Adult Education sector in Devon for over fifteen years.
Rosa comes from Bilbao, in northern Spain.
Rosa teaches a variety of courses, from Beginners to Advanced Spanish as well as accredited and conversation courses.
Rosa is also Senior Practitioner, Internal Verifier and Observer for Learn Devon.
In the past, Rosa also taught Science subjects.
