Computing for beginners
Who is this course for?
This short, 10-hour course will give you the basic digital skills you need in today’s online world.
You will learn how to stay safe online, how to communicate online using email, Word, and video communication software (Zoom). You will learn how to handle information and content by saving and organising files and web pages, you will practice online transactions that will allow you to access goods and services (shopping, NHS, travel information) and you will practice problem solving skills using online resources.
Support and feedback
You will get feedback from your tutor in the sessions to let you know how you are doing, and you will also complete an individual learning plan to help you keep on track and so you know where you are in the course and what you need to do next.
Additional costs and requirements
o you find it difficult to use computers (laptops/personal computers) and devices (Mobile phones and tablets)? Do you find it tricky to get online to search for information and use email and software like Word, and Zoom? If you would like to develop these skills, this course is for you.
Will I have to do anything outside of the session?
All equipment and hardware and software for this workshop is provided. (Please do not bring your own device as it may not be compatible).

You will learn face to face at your local Learn Devon centre
What I need – additional information
You may like to make your own notes so a pen/pencil and notebook will be useful. There will be a short assessment before you start the course to make sure you are on the right course at the right level.
What can I do next?
You can go on to one our free Essential Digital Skills qualifications, which are longer, online courses (up to 45 hours), with an online assessment at the end which must be completed to give you the Essential Digital Skills Qualification.
