Level 1 in essential digital skills
Who is this course for?
This Level 1 nationally recognised qualification course is for those who wish to build on their existing knowledge to become confident and experienced in using digital skills in life or work.
It is suitable for learners who have experience and skills in using a computer at Entry Level and/or have an Entry Level IT qualification.
This course is part of a new set of nationally recognised Essential digital skills qualifications, with the aim of providing adults with the digital skills needed to participate in and contribute to the digital world.
This course builds on the 5 main areas of essential digital skills to support you to do more complex tasks in each area –
1. Using devices and handling information
2. Creating and editing
4. Transacting (buying or exchanging information online)
5. Being safe and responsible online
In order for you to receive your qualification this course has a timed online assessment before the completion of the course.
Support and feedback
Your tutor will give you continuous support to achieve your learning goals and will also give you feedback on your achievement. A loan of a laptop for the duration of the course may be available if required.
Additional costs and requirements
The course is delivered online with live tutoring and is be provided free of charge if you don’t already have a digital skills qualification at this level. To attend the course, you will need a computer (PC or laptop) with a stable internet connection, as well as a built in or external microphone and camera. To be able to take part in online learning you will be sent a Zoom invitation with your access code. This code will be the same for every session.
An initial skills check will be carried out before the course starts to make sure it is the right course for you to study.
Will I have to do anything outside of the session?
Your tutor may ask you to complete a few online tasks between sessions.
About the tutor
Your tutor will be Paul Milsom.
Paul has been a tutor with Learn Devon since 2000, when he began teaching IT. Since then, he has expanded his teaching curriculum and taught a variety of courses, including Employability, Art, Digital Photography, Management Training and Shopping Online.
With extensive experience of working in the legal and financial sector in London and having been involved in projects in Thailand and Saudi Arabia, Paul uses his understanding and knowledge of the world of business in his teaching. He believes that people have a right to access learning opportunities and supports them to achieve their full potential.
In his spare time, Paul enjoys creating art, music and photography, and keeps active by walking and cycling. He reads widely and has an interest in psychology and philosophy.
