Using ICT - Finding information
Who is this course for?
This course is for anyone who would like to develop their skills in using a computer safely and effectively. This course will concentrate on searching for information from the internet and other information sources, and successful completion will lead to the achievement of Unit 2 Using ICT to Find Information. Learners may wish to continue with a further course (Communicating by Email) as well as Displaying Information Using ICT if they have not already completed the unit in the Autumn term, to complete OCR Entry Level Award in Using ICT (Entry 3).
Learning how to use equipment safely, work safely and adjust a computer for individual needs. Select and use appropriate ICT based information sources, including the internet to search for specific information. How to use removable media such as USB, CD and DVD. Support and feedback
Your tutor will give you support and feedback throughout the course. You will complete tasks, during the sessions, to show evidence of your skills.
Additional costs and requirements
If you have never used a computer before, please contact the centre before enrolling, so that we can give you the opportunity to learn these basic skills before the start of the course. It would also be helpful to know if you need any adjustments made (e.g. alternative mouse/keyboard or reading/spelling support).
Will I have to do anything outside of the session?
If you have access to a computer, it would be helpful if you could practise skills between sessions, but this is not compulsory.
About the tutor
Caroline Gale has worked for Learn Devon for over 20 years in a variety of roles. She has also been involved in research, industry, running a rural business and the voluntary sector.
She enjoys the challenge of developing methods of teaching and learning for those who may previously have been unable to achieve using conventional techniques. She believes that people generally learn best when they are enjoying themselves and in a relaxed and supportive environment.
