Who is this course for?

Do you want to improve your English? Is it not your first language? Then this course is for you. It will help you with everyday communication tasks, improve your career prospects and help access further education studies.

We regret this course is not suitable for beginners. Please, check our website for courses that offer a lower level ESOL programme.

Course content

The course will be online and you will be working in a small group with your tutor. It will lead to a qualification in speaking and listening. Multiple levels are available.

Support and feedback

You will have a tailored learning plan and your tutor will guide you and support you. You will be offered regular feedback on your progress as well as lots of encouragement to help you achieve your goals!

Additional costs and requirements

You will need a computer so you can access your online class. The course will be delivered through Zoom (an online video conferencing platform). Please, ensure you are ready to join the session in a timely manner.

Additional items that will be useful during your class:

– a pen and paper so you can make notes

– a folder to store any printed materials in

– a dictionary

An initial assessment to check your starting level is essential. Please, contact us to arrange an appointment.

Will I have to do anything outside of the session?

Practise English in everyday situations between the classes as much as you can if you want to progress faster.

There will also be weekly homework to help you achieve this.

About the tutor

Isabel Knockaert started working for Learn Devon in 2007 and currently specialises in ESOL, Literacy and Functional Skills English. Prior to this she has taught in different countries including Poland and Belgium. Isabel gained her first degree in 2005 after having studied English pedagogy, British and American literature, applied linguistics and methodology of language teaching. She gained her Masters of Education in Applied Linguistics graduating from the Open University in 2013. Isabel is passionate about helping her learners to work hard and achieve their goals whilst embarking on relevant but enjoyable learning.
