Who is this course for?
This course is offered online to support continued learning during lockdown. Please note if/when lockdown is lifted this course may be redirected to face to face learning. The time and day will remain the same, along with your tutor. The venue for direct learning will be at the Kennaway Centre, Exmouth EX1 8DL
This course is suitable for building your employability skills. Utilise these monthly coaching support sessions to find your work focus.
This is a skills focused workshop, for those wishing to refocus their job searching or to learn beginners and intermediate Microsoft Office skills.
You will be accompanied in your online class, with other learners. Your tutor will give practical demonstrations, have discussions, set tasks, give feedback and will support you throughout the course.
Negotiate an individualised plan that can be focused on career planning, building confidence and CV writing. Learn Microsoft Office IT skills using an online learning platform that you can access in your own time.
Support and feedback
our tutor will support you throughout the course through online discussions and written feedback on your progress. You will work with your tutor on your personal goals within the structure of the course.
Additional costs and requirements
You will need a laptop / PC / phone / tablet with a camera and microphone/headphones and a good internet connection.
Depending on your personal goals you will have an opportunity to refresh your CV, find direction in your job searching; or learn IT skills in preparation for taking a IT functional skills certificated qualification
Bring any existing CV to your first session.
Will I have to do anything outside of the session?
Your tutor will suggest ideas on what to practice in your own time and will signpost you to other opportunities to support your learning. If you are working on developing your IT skills, you will have the option to access an online platform between sessions to progress your independent learning.
About the tutor
Brian Norman works as a Tutor for Learn Devon; and delivers a range of skills focussed courses. These include Employability (incorporating IT skills), Printmaking and Bookbinding.
He is also a qualified and practicing Specialist Mental Health Mentor with other organisations.
Brian has a BA in Fine Art; specialising in Printmaking, from Sunderland University, a Postgraduate Certificate in Online Education from Open University (Accessing and planning learning, in an online environment) and a PGCE in Post Compulsory Education from University College Suffolk.
Brian has gained a broad understanding of Microsoft and Apple computing environments and a range of related software.
His practice is focused on supporting individuals to explore their potential and enabling them to strive towards personal goals. These skills have been shared within some of Learn Devon’s employability and IT projects.
