Who is this course for?
This entry-level course is suitable for anyone who wishes to develop employability skills through a range of volunteering and fundraising activities. It is a Learn Devon certificated course – ‘Preparation for Work’.
You will find out about the benefits of volunteering and discover local volunteering opportunities. You will consider your own skills and interests and match them to suitable voluntary jobs. You will also take part in a team mini-enterprise project to raise funds for a charity or local project. These activities will help you to develop your employability skills to prepare you for the workplace.
Support and feedback
You will be encouraged to analyse your own skills and personal qualities and can discuss your progress regularly with your tutor, who will also advise you on how you could improve your skills. You will record your progress in an individual leaning plan/workbook (with support if needed).
Additional costs and requirements
As you will be required to build a portfolio, you need sufficient oral communication skills but may have help from a reader/scribe, if required. If you go on a trip to outside venues, you may need money for entrance fees or travel costs. You will be told about them in advance. You should bring a notebook and pen. You may need money to buy a drink at break time.
Will I have to do anything outside of the session?
You may wish to find out more about voluntary organisations or contribute towards the enterprise project in your own time, but this is not compulsory.
